The League joins IUF Latin America to stand in solidarity with Odilia Caal Có, General Secretary of her factory union SITRAWinners-FESTRAS in Guatemala. Odilia was voted union president because she always worked to support her coworkers at their factory that produces for Kohl’s, Target, and Walmart. At the direction of factory management, Odilia was physically attacked inside of the factory, in a clear case of retaliation against Odilia for her union activity and insistence on standing up for her fellow workers’ rights on the job. Winners factory is a subsidiary of a Korean corporation, SEA-A, which has a history of violating workers’ rights. 

While SEA-A claims to be a good member of the community, touting its support for a Guatemalan police organization and other “community support”, it continues to employ managers at Winners that have engaged in a deliberate and violent attack on a woman worker for the crime of standing up for her coworkers. This is unconscionable and any company that does business with SEA-A - like Kohl’s, Target, and Walmart - should be implicated in the illegal and violent conditions under which its products are made.
